Refund policy
ReturnBooks is recordkeeping software. It does not file taxes, run payroll, process payments, or replace your accountant. This page covers how refunds for your ReturnBooks subscription are handled.

Who handles billing
Subscription billing is handled by Stripe, our payment processor. When you start a subscription, Stripe collects your card on a Stripe-hosted page. ReturnBooks never sees your card number, CVC, or expiration. Stripe sends us only opaque identifiers and your subscription status.
Cancellation
You can cancel your subscription at any time. Sign in to ReturnBooks, open Settings, scroll to the Billing card, and click Open billing portal. You will be taken to Stripe's hosted customer portal, where you can cancel, switch plans, or update your payment method yourself. No emails or support tickets required.
When you cancel, your subscription stays active until the end of the current billing period. You will not be charged again.
Refund window
If your first subscription payment does not feel right, you can request a full refund within 14 days of that first charge. Email support from the email address on your ReturnBooks account and include the date of your first charge. We will approve the refund and Stripe will return the funds to your original payment method, usually within five business days.
Beyond the first 14 days, refunds are not automatic but we still consider them case-by-case for service issues. Reach out and tell us what happened — we'd rather make it right than leave you stuck.
How refunds are issued
Refunds are reviewed and approved manually by ReturnBooks staff inside the Stripe dashboard. ReturnBooks does not run automated refund logic or auto-cancel subscriptions from inside the app. This keeps the loop human and avoids accidental mass refunds.
Failed payments
If a renewal charge fails, Stripe will retry the payment a few times and email you. If it still doesn't go through, your subscription moves to a past-due state in ReturnBooks. Open the Stripe billing portal from Settings → Billing to update your payment method and clear the failed charge.
What is and is not refundable
- Refundable: your most recent subscription charge, within the refund window described above, for ReturnBooks subscription fees.
- Not refundable: third-party fees outside ReturnBooks' control (for example, currency-conversion or card-network fees imposed by your bank or card issuer).
- ReturnBooks does not pay refunds for taxes, payroll, vendor invoices, or any other money — we are not your payments provider and never hold those funds.
Disputes and chargebacks
Before opening a chargeback with your bank, please email support. In most cases we can resolve a refund directly through Stripe faster than a chargeback would settle. If a chargeback is opened, we will respond through Stripe's dispute flow.
